Friends and Art
Still very windy but much better weather today so we drove to Beaumaris to meet up with our friend Ian in his art studio. He is a fellow glider pilot and a very talented artist; using oils, he captures many atmospheric seascapes and also does wonderful aviation pictures. 12 years ago I commissioned Ian to do a picture for Mr HB's 70th Birthday of him in his beloved Vega Glider flying over the Club House, Long Mynd, Shropshire and which co-incidentally just happens to be my first Blip*
After much chat we found a bench outside the Churchyard to have our picnic and watch the world go by - keeping a wary eye out for the Seagull who was watching our every mouthful! Then off to explore the town and harbour and a final farewell to Ian.
On the way back to our campsite we called in to the Oriel Mon Museum and Art Gallery at Llangefni which had been highly recommended. A wonderful bronze statue of the artist, Sir Kiffin Williams RA (1918-2006) greeted us at the entrance. We had tea and cake on the terrace and then spent time devouring all/no most (not enough time) of what was on offer at this unique art gallery which explores the Island's special culture and history through a wide range of artwork, craftwork and exciting exhibitions.
Featured a lot was the Late Charles Tunnicliffe RA (1991-1979) famous wildlife artist and book illustrator, 'Tarka the Otter' being one of many.
A lovely evening and a treat to be able to enjoy our last meal outside with our friends D&K and with another gorgeous sunset. Dinner was a joint effort by K and Me: Cashew Nut cream on tiny crackers with olives, tomatoes and K's homegrown lettuce (K) chicken strips in a lemon and wild garlic sauce (HB) beetroot risotto and homegrown broad beans (K) followed by poached peaches caramelised with another dash of Ameretto, cherries and Greek Yoghurt (HB). Homeward bound tomorrow, we've had a wonderful week here.
Extras: in the collage, My first Blip, The bronze, Skeleton of a woman in a stone lined coffin (Bedd Cist) excavated at Tywyn y Capel believed to be aged 60-87. Her bones showed evidence of osteoarthritis and joint disease and Falcon, one of Charles Tunnicliffe's beautiful bird studies.
Our dear friends D&K.
Apologies for waffling on and getting behind with your journals. Late nights and full days.
