Life is a Challenge!

CHURCH AND DERELICT SUNDAY

We had a great time at Church with one of our favourite preachers, Iain Hoskins, a Geordie, who always makes me laugh with his wonderful sense of humour.  His sermon was based on the way God provided for the Israelites when they were wandering for 40 years in the wilderness.

I didn’t realise that if the Israelites had been obedient and believed and listened to what God had told them, the journey from Egypt to the Promised Land would have taken them 11 days, instead of which, because of all their grumbling and grousing and their ungratefulness and disobedience, it took them 40 years!  WOW, that’s a long time to be grumbling!

Iain said that we are all selfish and self-centred, but our dependency in our Christian Life should be on God, not ourselves - something to remember as we go through the coming week.

I haven’t taken part in DS for quite some time, so after Church, Mr. HCB decided we would go out for a drive - and we ended up in Marlborough again.  Because it was lunchtime, we decided to go into The Food Gallery and have a coffee and a quick snack - and of course, I decided to take advantage of the fact that the dereliction I had seen when we were here on Friday would make a good shot for DS.

However, I didn’t listen to Mr. HCB and take the shot before we went into The Food Gallery, and while we were in there, the heavens opened and it rained very heavily.  Undeterred, I said I would go in the pouring rain, but it stopped before we had finished our snack, thankfully.

So here is the door and windows of Wykeham House, which is listed on an Agent’s website as “a magnificent Grade II listed Victoria town house with accommodation over four floors and has great potential to be a lovely home.”  It certainly doesn’t look that good at the moment and having looked over the railings, I thought there would even be rats in the basement, it is so mucky.

It is now up for auction with a property value of £900,000 - but it will take an awful lot more to get this property into any sort of shape to be lived in again.

When I had taken the photographs, I had a message from our contact at Morrisons, to say that there was a very large trolley full of groceries to be collected, so as our car is going in for a service tomorrow, we decided to go straight back and collect it today.  We can then go to Church this evening and put all the stuff in the storeroom ready for the Community Fridge and Bags of Hope during the week.

As we drove back, I took some shots of the sky with the beautiful clouds - and it looked as if the rain was moving towards Swindon - see extra - which it did;  the rain started just as we got to Morrisons.  I’ve put in an extra of Mr. HCB with the trolley load and soon after that we had the job of loading the car with all the stuff in the pouring rain.  However, we are very grateful to Morrisons and it was worth getting wet for!

P.S.  I apologise for not commenting yesterday, but we were out for our "indoor barbeque" and not back until quite late and today we are "twicers" at Church, so comments may be limited again.
