Drum Nation at Cockermouth Festival

We only found out about the festival yesterday afternoon on Penrith station when Nick mentioned the festival and the Cockermouth Ukulele Band. Unfortunately, the band was not performing today but we did see another Uke band called the Heart of Ukes in Seth’s Bar.

Earlier, in the morning we saw a property in Tallentire which was spacious and well equipped but had some drawbacks which ruled it out. It was on a shady plot with small windows and all the windows were wooden so would require regular maintenance. Another property to see tomorrow afternoon.

We walked up to Cockermouth Castle which was one of the festival venues. The aforementioned Drum Nation were the first act. It was relentless and LOUD. The enclosed nature of the castle was not the place for them to perform, good as they were. It’s a wonder the castle walls were still standing after their set.

They were followed by the quiet and melodic Sing Owt and Wild Chorus choirs which were much more restful and very enjoyable. They in turn were followed by the Good Fridays, a group of talented guitarists, fiddler and percussionist who played the mouth organ. They played a good selection of songs , accompanied by a younger chap who they referred to as their carer.

All in all, a good afternoon’s entertainment. Hopefully next year we’ll see more than one afternoon
