Concert in the park
Thursday
We got out late morning for a bike ride, starting from Kings Mills, but I wasn’t feeling very energetic, so I made do with 10 miles return, whereas R did two or three more.
In the evening there was a concert in Montgomery Park, given by BAMSO, Blue Ash and Montgomery Symphony Orchestra. These are all professional musicians, including Tom, our church organist/pianist, and his grown up daughter on cello, Danny, our former church choir director on percussion, and our piano tuner, who is also violist. The conductor is Michael Chertock, who is also principal keyboard player for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, chair of the Piano Department at College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, and Music Director and organist at St. Barnabas Episcopal church - I wonder how some of these musicians have time to sleep! It was a beautiful evening, and we took a picnic along. It was a light hearted and patriotic concert in honour of the 4th July tomorrow. During one of the pieces, they had hula hoops available for any children - the girl in my thumbnail photo was quite an expert, keeping it going the whole time! They gave everyone a small flag as we entered, but then at the end they gave out bigger flags to anyone who wanted one ,with a plastic pole which lit up. The concert ended as most of these type of concerts do with John Philip Sousa Stars and Stripes.
