Syrphus species

A hoverfly on a spearthistle flower.

There were lots of hoverflies of different species around Kinghorn Loch this afternoon.  I chose this one to blip.  It is a species in the genus Syrphus, seen here feeding on a flowerhead of spear thistle

I can also report that the swans still have their two surviving cygnets and seem to be doing well.  See 'Extra'.
