2025 Friday — America’s Birthday
Yesterday began with a walk at 8:00 a.m. from our place north on Ocean Avenue a mile or so to the sand sculptures at the pier with my friend Joyce; the sun was breaking through the clouds, the street was lined with chairs, and the people creating sand sculptures were busy.
When we walked the other direction to meet Mr. Fun at our chairs, which were placed across the street from the Community Church, the number of people had increased enormously and the fog was creeping in. The parade had a western theme so the morning was decorated with cowboy boots, western hats, and thoughts of “Home on the Range.”
In the evening we gathered with three dozen hungry humans at the courtyard of the home of two of the most gracious, hospitable people we know, Bob & Elaine, for a potluck barbecue that satisfied our hunger and fed our souls as neighbors and church friends swapped stories about their day, and we all acknowledged God’s grace on our nation as Tanna led and we sang with the UkeLadies.
As the sunlight vanished behind the northern hills, we donned our jackets, gathered our things, and all headed for various places to see fireworks; for us that was home with the two pups, Chloe and Mitzi.
The clear sky allowed us to see the celebration in the air and to hear the collective voices of cheers throughout this little beach town of Cayucos; a place that grows big on July 4th. America’s 2025 Birthday is now captured in our memories.
Happy July 4th!
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
and Chloe & Mitzi too!
