Quod oculus meus videt

Helm Crag from Allan Bank

I walked out of the hotel at about 6 am, but because of the high fells surrounding Grasmere the vast majority of the area had still not seen any sun. I watched and took a series of images as the sun first lit the summit of Helm Crag and then slowly the light from the sun slid down its southern face and finally lit the valley below.

After breakfast we took a drive upon to Keswick and then through Borrowdale, over Honister Pass to Buttermere.  A walk around the lake was most enjoyable, before heading back through Newlands Valley.

We went out to the Yan for a meal in the evening to finish off the day.
