High Peak

A little sad to leave our relaxing stay in Darlington with the venerable LV but we left with a bang - full English breakfast at home. A fairly trouble free drive into the Peak District until we hit a few roads that brought back some of the trauma of driving on the Amalfi coast, but thankfully not inhabited by hundreds of motorbikes.

We stopped in Buxton at my youngest sister Nicky’s house and had a brief tour and cuppa before heading to Hayfield just below Kinder Scout and an excellent camping site nestled between two steep hills and their thick sheltering cover of tall trees. This photo taken just meters from our van where there is a trail one way into the village and the other way to Kinder Scout. Heading straight over a little bridge on this river Sett, there is a short walk up the hill to the Sportsman pub where we met up with Nicky and her fiancé Fintan for a lovely meal that they insisted on treating us to. Great time discussing their forthcoming wedding in Kefalonia next June for which they have asked me to be the celebrant. Extra of L outside the pub.
