Enjoying the Alpine meadows
We slept so well last night after our long journey, and this morning we were pleased to see it was not too hot here but perfectly comfortable. I am very glad to be escaping the heatwave at home in England, our house there has enormous glass windows/bifold doors on many rooms and so in hot weather it becomes like a greenhouse, and is so uncomfortably hot. I never sleep well there when it is so hot as our bedroom doesn't cool down at night, so last night we both enjoyed a better sleep due to the cooler bedroom here.
I started the morning by going through the cupboards and throwing out all the things that were very much past the sell by date - I was last here in January, although Gavin and the boys have been since and there is always some ingredients that someone has bought that are now well out of date. Then I made a long shopping list of things we need and did a bit of meal planning. We went off to the village, first flat whites at our favourite cafe, and then off to the Co-op for the eye wateringly expensive experience of grocery shopping in Switzerland! Dogs are allowed in all shops, cafes and restaurants but they are not allowed in supermarkets so while we were shopping Xena stayed in the car - check the extra for a useful feature on Gavin's car - it can be set on 'dog mode' when you leave a dog in the car.
I made lunch at home and then Gavin had the usual settling in chores to do - going to the bicycle shop to get the liquid that has to be pumped into the tubeless tyres on the bicycles and then sorting those tyres, bringing the outdoor furniture up from the storeroom in the basement, taking the car to be washed etc. We have friends arriving tomorrow so we need to be organised and ready for their arrival. While Gavin was doing that I took Xena on one of my favourite walks, it goes along a stream up the mountain side and there are always such beautiful wildflowers there and many butterflies. It was overcast when we started but then the sun broke through and it got so warm. Xena loves exploring the meadows for bees, butterflies and other little creatures.
Now I am about to make supper and to also make some granola. Switzerland is the home of muesli, it is where it was first created, and there are many lovely options to buy here - yet I am making my own granola, seems a bit daft but Gavin likes it!
