Cramond get it

Not entirely made-up-my-mind last night whether or not to go into the office today, and presuming yes, whether to go by motorised bicycle or just bicycle.  In the end I was woken a bit early by noisy neighbours, so rode in on the Africa Twin.  It was already pretty warm out.

It was a useful day with several conversations with a colleague not quite of my team's line management chain but with whom I often have chats about motor racing or road trips.  I called it a day late afternoon as I was too hot and too tired, and wanted to ride home the long way.

The long way was first to the village of Cramond, in search of a phonebox because it's Phriday today.  The phonebox in my photo turned out to be Carron Company (boo hiss) so I wandered down to the beach, found a bench, and drank the rest of my still cold (!) milk from my Thermos.  The white building pictured here is the Cramond Inn; the nearest part dates back to 1670, and later modifications, including the crow-stepped gables and various extensions were made in the late 1800s.

From Cramond I was so warm I was all for going straight round the bypass and home, but instead rode west to Kirknewton – a good circular cycling route – and skirted the old airfield, then back through Balerno and Colinton village, picking up something for tea on the way, then arriving home and peeling off my heavy motorbike clothes and zonking a little bit.
