BACK BLIP #11


We woke to patches of blue sky and eventually more and more sunshine, although always with a backdrop of dark clouds lingering around the Western Ranges.

The main photo today is the same apple orchard I blipped two weeks ago  after the previous major flood. 
Today we stopped for a photo to show how damaging yesterday’s rainfall has been for farmers and orchardists all around the district. 
Excessive rain certainly fell, but because the ground is still badly waterlogged from recent rain and floods it meant it was beyond absorbing any more. Sadly huge lakes have appeared instead.

This time the foreshore along the Kumeras was littered with many piles of logs with only a few apple and kiwifruit bins sitting forlornly amongst the slash and debris which had been washed down the rivers.

Power still needs to be restored to 350 homes and many roads require removal of trees and slips before they can be opened.
