STRAAT

The Rhine Cycle Path, Day Thirteen:

After a brisk morning run – just 4K, over the bridge and round Java Island – we set off for the Central Station, where we took the free ferry over to the NDSM, a former home of the shipbuilding industry, with warehouses now converted into shops, studios, bars and STRAAT, the Museum for Street Art and Graffiti, which was excellent, with nearly 200 huge artworks, created onsite within the shell of a massive former factory. Afterwards we had a wander round the neighbourhood – slipways, cranes, old industrial buildings, mostly covered in street art – and later on we took another ferry over the IJ from Java Island, had a drink by the river and ate a very good three-course Flemish-French meal in an old garage…
