Only two photos taken today – so you can have them both! 

Main one is of my Auntie, face full of bruises.  The extra is worse, over the course of the day the bruising drained more into her face. I specifically told her to stay upright while I was away. I've been back two days – two! – and she goes and trips while feeding the birds grapes, smacking her face on the breakfast bar.

We ended up spending 9 hours in A&E: head scan, ECG, blood tests, standing blood pressure checks… Thorough and completely exhausting, for both of us. Her daughter’s abroad at the moment, so we kept in touch via group WhatsApp.

We did have some laughs, mind – mostly quoting all the funny things Auntie used to say to us when we were kids. We made her eat a sandwich, drink water, basically bullied her lovingly into looking after herself. We laughed, people-watched, and tried to make the best of it.
We’ve got to go back tomorrow to the eye clinic – because her pupils are different sizes. There’s a worry she may have damaged the work done on her cataracts.

Not exactly how I pictured spending this week.

I told her that retirement meant I could spend more time with her… I just didn’t mean in a hospital waiting room!
