Suilven
As the weather forecast is not so good this week, I thought I'd best capture Suilven, albeit in a gloomy blip, as seen from our holiday cottage soon after arrival today. It might disappear beneath cloud for the rest of the week. I think those folk who live up on the hill there must have a fabulous view!
I described our accommodation as a cottage but in fact it's a hut, a rather smart one. It was originally the Coastguard Hut but fell into disuse and was transformed beautifully into a petite home from home for two people. We shall be very comfortable here this week.
I'm sorry but I won't be commenting today as we are both shattered. We left J snd P's early to take part in the Perth Parkrun, a very enjoyable course alongside the river. Tony did very well finishing in 24.52. I tried out the dicky knee taking my walking poles to see if I could manage the 5k without too much discomfort afterwards. Sitting with a freezer block on it on the next part of our drive seems to have prevented it swelling, so that's good news.
From Perth we drove to Aviemore for a break with cuppas at the cafe in Tiso. Unfortunately, Tiso is brimming with wonderful things for the outdoors so we came away with a water bottle and some expensive walking socks for Tony and a Berghaus fleece in the kid's sale for Euan.
Tony is the driver so he had it all to do today. From Aviemore we still had to get to Inverness and then a further couple of hours and some to reach here at Lochinver. Last time we were up this way we took the southern route to Ullapool, but we took the decision following the satnav from Inverness to take what appeared to be the northern A road which was supposedly quicker. The trouble was that thirty plus miles of the A road was on single track with passing places so Tony was pretty much wiped out by the time we arrived here. I guess we will be returning the southern way next weekend!
Anyway, the focus for Tony this week is Suilven so it will be a case of looking at the mountain weather forecast each morning and going for it when it looks something like okay. Meanwhile I will be exploring more locally and cultivating a mid morning coffee somewhere. There is also the Lochinver Bookshop.....
