Baltic Day Five - Riga
A more relaxed start, with time for a leisurely breakfast (we’re usually in a rush). Off into Riga, and we’re right by the town, so many people walked back to the ship after the tour.
Again, a fantastic guide who was passionate about her country, and was very informative. What a history! Invaded by just about everybody over the centuries. They are so glad to be part of Europe and NATO. Very worrying times for them.
After a walk to see the fantastic Art Nouveau buildings, (which of course I can’t do justice to them here). We then had a concert, which consisted of kids doing traditional (highly energetic) dancing. It started with teenagers, then as each group came on stage, they got smaller and younger, with even tiny tots joining in. Very cute!!
Then a walk through the cobbled streets to the Old Town. We were back on the ship for lunch, of course. Chocolate pudding today - irresistible!
The dull day turned into a scorcher, so we popped along to the pool area and found a shaded spot. I did actually immerse myself in the water, though not for long. Neither of us finds lying in the sun comfortable to read, so we came back to our suite - the deck was too sunny for me to stay there long, so I snoozed on the sofa.
People I don’t recall speaking to keep coming up to us and congratulating us on getting our luggage.
Right. Almost time to decide where to eat tonight…
Derek, Archie’s sitter, has sent seven videos while I’ve been typing this… Archie is having a good time.
Extra: check out the building opposite the Russian Embassy (go large).
