Ramblings and Mutterings

Packed

It was nice to have a lie in after yesterday’s busy day.

I finally ticked off something on my list, it was a Hidden London tour of parts of the London Underground that are not open to the public. I decided to pick a station that I come through regularly for work which was Moorgate. The two people taking the tour were absolutely brilliant and their enthusiasm was infectious. The underground has always fascinated me from an engineering perspective, so this behind-the-scenes view was thoroughly enjoyable. I would recommend you taking one of these tours. I am definitely going to do more.

I decided to walk to my next place, but first I stopped at this place for an early sandwich. The place is amazing, the sandwiches are huge and to be honest far too much for me. But the chicken kiev sandwich I had was delicious.

It started to drizzle on my walk and there were a number of people who had failed to see the forecast for the day. It certainly wasn’t a sunny day like yesterday.

And then to the Tower of London. Incredibly this was my first ever visit there. The history there is incredible, and I loved it. I even saw the new poppy display and the crown jewels.

As I left the tower and I could see a crowd gathering by the Thames, I quickly worked out what was going on. Tower Bridge was up, and a big ship was sailing under it. A rare sight so it was great to see.

I made my way to the tube and headed back to the hotel. There was a doughnut van outside the station, and I was very pleased to purchase some. Nice and hot with plenty of sugar, so yummy.

In the evening, I headed back to the West End to see Oliver the musical. It was fantastic, but there was a slight mishap in the first half as a prop flew off the stage into the orchestra pit. The chap playing Fagin was brilliant and broke the fourth wall by talking to the audience as they tried to retrieve the prop and the situation. Simon Lipkin who played Fagin was absolutely fantastic, as was Shanay Holmes who played Nancy. Brilliant! Well worth a visit.

When I came out at the end there was chaos, as the Pride procession had taken place and it was packed. I walked all the way to Tottenham Court Road to try and avoid the crowds, but I was unlucky as there were queues trying to get into the station. But luckily once in the station and heading to the Elizabeth Line it was a lot quieter.

Today I am thankful for:

1. A lie in
2. A fascinating Hidden London tour
3. A trip around Tower of London
4. A brilliant evening of theatre with Oliver
