Barrhaven was a highlight, so you know the rest
Strange day, in many respects, not least because we are in the middle of the heat event and it really is very, very hot. We made an early-ish start, heading out to Barrhaven so Mrs. Ottawacker could go to Value Village, which is the worst kind of thrift store, but who am I to judge. Besides, I quite like having a nosey around to see what else is on offer. It’s a bit voyeuristic, looking at the incredible shite that people throw out, and it is astounding that anyone ever buys anything there. Of course, they know better – and I am sure there is a whole stream of Mrs. Ottawackers eagerly anticipating the heavy thud of the 25% Discount Voucher that gets sent around. Before that, too, there was the thrill of a quick run around Costco. My day was made. Seriously though, this is what adults do in North America. And it is, not to put too fine a point on it, shite.
Anyway, I had chores to do at home, not least of which entailed clearing out my closet, which has become the accumulation point for practically all the junk I own that hasn’t yet made it down to the basement. I spent the best part of the day doing that – which sounds more exciting than it actually was – taking clothes down to the laundry and filling bags with stuff to take to… Value Village. Well, what can I say, if you can’t beat’em.
