Up on the slopes

Richard and I both had various tedious computer-based tasks to do this morning. Then this afternoon we got ourselves out for a walk at Parkwood Springs
From there, there's a range of stunning views across the city.
It's an area with a chequered history. From the late 1980s it was home to Sheffield's Ski Village  complete with a tacky Alpine-themed lodge and a range of artificial ski runs.
For a while this was very successful, but eventually it all came to an end, with a mix of accidental fires and arson attacks putting the finishing touches. Since then, as the Wikipedia link above outlines, there have been various redevelopment schemes, none successful to date.
Meanwhile, nature has done its own thing, with support from the admirable 'Friends of Parkwood Springs' and the city council. There's now a network of paths and bike trails around the site, and trees and wildflowers are flourishing. Most of the remaining ski village infrastructure has disappeared under the vegetation. There's a football pitch and a bike park too, and it's all well-used by neighbouring communities. All of this lifted the spirits.
On the way back, we paused for me to take some photos of the delightful murals adorning a local pub (see an example in the extra).
As I write, the BBC is reporting that our govt "will recognise Palestinian state in September unless Israel meets certain conditions".
What's with the conditions? Surely that recognition just needs to be made; there is little point trying to "put pressure" rhetorically on an  Israeli government that is murdering children day after day.
It is hard not to rant about this...
