Swiss Breakfast
Tomorrow is the Swiss National Day and holiday. Families get together and share meals and some people like to watch the Fireworks’ Shows in the evening.
Bircher Muesli (sometimes called overnight oats) is a healthy breakfast invented by a Swiss doctor at the beginning of the 20th century. His name: Dr Maximilien Oskar Bircher-Benner.
Bircher Muesli is partially prepared the evening before it is eaten. In case you’re interested, this is my recipe:
1tablespoon of dried oats and one of ground almonds, add 3 tablespoons liquid (water, milk or almond milk), 1 tablespoon plumped raisins (presoaked in boiling water), a squeeze of lemon juice or a little grated organic lemon peel. Cover and leave overnight in fridge.
The next morning, I add some yoghurt and few broken walnuts or pecans, one grated apple and slivered almonds if you like.
I’ve done a flat lay of mine to show my breakfast for August 1st! My little Swiss wooden cow sets the scene and so does a mini Swiss flag and Edelweiss napkin!
