Timber!
We've been on a mission to tidy up the trees in our garden for a few weeks now and today was probably the end of that work, to take down 2 larches that have been here as long as we have and more... +30 years. They were close to overhead electricity wires and every 2 or 3 years, Scottish Power would come and trim them, except all that trimming was on one side leaving them very uneven. They're branches hung over our cars, dropping bits onto them and almost resting on them when it snowed. Originally we had planned to get a treecutterdowner to do it, but I had the brainwave to contact Scottish Power as there was a risk the work could hit the lines. Once contacted, it took less than 2 weeks to schedule the work with them even chipping our existing branches we had taken down on other trees and cutting everything to the right size to go in our log fire... all free of charge... result. I was fascinated how they did it... so watched them.
So our views will open back even more now, when we moved here in 1995 there were loads of young trees but it was very open, now... or yesterday it's almost a wall of trees around us... the extra attached is off the 2 larch trees maybe around 1997, even Betty on the left was wee. I'm kind of sad with them coming down, but at some point with the uneven balance, they may have come down anyway... ah well. We make now look for a new tree that can be controlled a bit easier.
