Poaka greet the sun

Back to the beach house without any need to work, except in the garden. We spent a large part of the day visiting the big garden centre halfway back to Auckland, at Silverdale. Enjoyed a relaxed lunch, as well as getting plants for us and also some for S' mother who is still planning her garden, and a young woman who is a great hard working gardener does the work for her.

This morning the sky was almost cloudless; just enough clouds in the east to catch the light from the rising sun. The birds were just arriving for the morning high tide and feeding opportunities. The first arrivals I heard coming were a putangitangi pair. Very raucous calls as they swooped in to the shallows at the far southern end of Snells Beach. The gulls were there already, and still coming.

This pair of poaka (pied stilts) had also arrived before me. They appeared to be waiting for the sun to rise (which it did only 2 minutes later from behind Kawau Island). Another Saturday Sunrise.
