Life through the lens...

Off- Roader

On our walk from Woodlesford Lock along the Aire and Calder Canal towards Leeds, to collect blackberries, we were more than delighted to see this barge chugging along towards Stourton.
The UK’s most inland port.

Casper River is on a mission to revive the UK’s inland waterways, and remove more than 5,893 heavy goods vehicles from U.K. roads for each water-based vessel in operation.
This would ease congestion, reducing the likelihood of road-based accidents, and eliminating approximately 1,434 metric tonnes of CO2. emissions per barge.

Very little noise as it glided along. Compared to the tremendous noise coming from the vehicles passing over the M1 bridge spanning the canal and river.

I hope this is the way forward and the barging industry can get back to its former glory.
Well this is the dream of the Casper River company.
Sometimes dreams come true.
