Blackberries

Blackberries! Lots and lots of them.
A quiet day. Francis worked while I read my book, slept on the settee and in the afternoon went for a double walk, firstly to pick Sloes and then for blackberries. The sloes weren't quite ripe and reading about it September/October is the right time for them, and the best time is after the first frost. They looked fantastic but were just still a bit too hard. I'll have to come back. The ones I did pick I'll put in the freezer because that can help them soften apparently.
The blackberries were a whole different story and there were loads of them. I filled a bowl full, definitely enough for a tart or two and think I will go back for more so I can make jam.
Francis came to join me on the second walk. It rained and we both got very wet but it was warm and  good to be out so we went the long way home through the village and Francis played fantasy homes.
Dinner with Paloma and Hugh at Hugh's was fun and late. Luckily another quiet day today before the trip home this evening.
