I pushed the bins out to the street for collection, then I was off to McArthur Island Park at 6. Wide bands of dark clouds in the east provided an unusual sky with light pouring in like lights on a stage.
I caught four does coming onto the park drive from the slough. They seemed to like the willow trees and were soon busy trimming the branches. A closer look at one showed that marking on their hides I'd seen before. It appears as though its back is wet. I'm guessing it is some kind of disease.
I stopped for a look at my mountains from the north side of the foot bridge. Then I got a shot of the slough looking east and another of the foot bridge. The reflections are sharp today.
Marmots showed up in great numbers. Just as I was leaving the park, people arrived to feed them along the river. This is not allowed and I must bite my tongue not to tell them off. I find it particularly galling when there are children involved. The signs are clear, but no one is about to police it at 7 AM.
I had a long chat with one of the regular walkers in the park. He told me all about the wildlife he's viewed in this park over the years. We agreed that out city parks are a tremendous gift to us.
We have a busy weekend coming up in the city with Rib Fest, Hot Night in the City and the Dragonboat events. The temperatures are forecast to rise over the weekend. I'm wondering if our summer is on the last hurrah.
