Plums

These are growing in my mother’s garden, where nobody picks them anymore. I took a few home with me today.

This visit at my mother’s house wasn‘t easy. Her carer E will return home to Poland next Friday for six weeks. Her agency now wants to send us T again (the 78-year-old lady who does not speak or understand much German), completely ignoring the fact that I had explicitely asked them to find someone else.

I decided I am not okay with that. Even after four weeks with this carer she could not communicate with, my mother had almost entirely stopped talking at all. Six weeks is just too much. She deserves better care, so if the agency doesn’t find someone else, I will cancel their contract - even though that means we will be losing E as well.

I explained this to E today, who cried, and I felt like a monster. But I am not going to change my mind, because my mother is my first priority here.
