Garden survivors
According to my watch, it’s currently 29° outside. And according to the weather forecast, this is the last day of the current heatwave, and temperatures are expected to fall gradually over the next few days. Smithers and I won’t be sorry. He’s feeling extra tired after his busy day yesterday on his birthday, and neither of us enjoys the heat.
The garden is also looking sorry for itself. There are lots of roses still in bloom (and lots of dead heads accusing me, because I’ve not had time to remove them) but very little else to give colour to the garden. I have run out of energy on the watering front. There is still a small amount of rainwater at the bottom of the water butt, but it takes an age to fill a watering can when the barrel is almost empty. Nevertheless it’s worth waiting for it to dribble out in order to relieve the parched plants.
I found another tiny viola in a crack on the patio today, so I decided to make a collage of some of the garden survivors to thank them for brightening up my day.
