Margie Reads Ursula

I took Margie the final poems of Ursula K. LeGuin, and she loved them so much she held them to her heart and kissed the book. “I love her honesty,” Margie said. “She doesn’t sugarcoat anything. She tells the truth about being old. You think you have to hide it from people. But she doesn’t do that.”

We decided to make videos of three poems (one we had to try for a second time). I’ve uploaded them to Youtube so her fan base on Blipfoto can see and hear her read them, if they like. Her voice is weak, and she tends to drop the last line, so crank your volume up as high as you can make it. Maybe use earphones if you have them. Youtube has added automatic subtitles that are not entirely correct, though they come close, usually completely mistaking the last line. If you click on the three dots next to the video, you will find "Description." Click on that, and you can read the words next to the image.

I ask that the videos not be shared on social media (other than Blipfoto) because we didn’t secure copyright to the poems, although I do give full credit to the author and publisher. Just to be sure, if you do look at them, please keep them to yourself or very close friends.

Old Novelist’s Lament, take two.” Title and first couple of words clipped off. Last Line is "under the sky, across the hills."

Doze.”

Wakeful.” The last two lines are "forgets the deepest depth, the earth/ that joins us all."
