Picking Crabs

I had just sat down, said the table blessing and heard my mother stir. It was hot and humid outside anyway. While we were having breakfast, my sister and BIL stopped by to deliver some blue crabs they had steamed and already cleaned. They were ready for me to pick out. Out came the craft paper and picking knife. We will have crab cakes while we are camping, a quick and tasty meal. I am sharing over a dozen of the crabs with Kim. My mother will pick out the claws tomorrow. I only finished eight so I will pick out the rest tomorrow as well. Before I started on the crabs, I made a pot of sloppy joes and six Salisbury steak patties we can have for dinner over the next few days. I thawed the meat before Renee sent us that huge chicken and rice casserole. We had more of it for lunch. Renee put a sleeping potion in it I think (just kidding). We headed to the recliners as soon as the kitchen was cleaned. And there we will stay until time to get ready for 5:00 pm Mass. Momma dozed all morning. She is sorting through a stack of old mail Roger brought her. That should entertain her until we need to leave. Wishing you a time well spent weekend. Stay safe. Thanks for your visit. “The best way to eat crabs, as everyone knows, is off newspaper at a large table with a large number of people.” - Laurie Colwin
