How many men .....
…… does it take to rig a glider …. Under normal circumstances usually only the owner or together with other syndicate members but today as flying was scrubbed due to an antisocial south easterly wind which was quite strong at briefing and continued through to late afternoon these lovely lads decided to rig the Slingsby ‘Skylark’ as a tribute to it's former owner whose family will be coming up during this week. PO was a lovely man who sadly died a few years ago but is always remembered by us, fellow glider pilots, family and friends for his devotion to gliding, his highly adventurous nature and once a BBC cameraman to add to a long list of accolades.
We’ve spent much of the day up at the Gliding Club, lunch, tea and cake and lots of lovely catchups with many old friends. To most people the weather has been perfect, wall to wall blue skies and the cooling breeze, unfortunately not the best for gliding though, particularly as it’s the Club’s annual Task Week which requires participants to fly routes devised by the judges to see how far can be flown in the quickest time. Not today though and the next few days are not looking very promising either.
Gliding seems a bit like farming to me – very weather dependent.
Extras: Grounded and Wild ponies on the Lond Mynd.
