After the storm
We had an excellent evening last night. About 30 of us went to a local restaurant to celebrate a friend’s birthday. I had imagined that we would all pay our own way, but in fact we were all treated by the couple hosting. The restaurant had opened especially and these were friends made over the last 30 years. Our walk this morning was cancelled as it was still raining first thing after the overnight storm. The weather was brightening so Mrs TT and I decided to walk up to the local waterfalls, about three hours there and back, seven kilometres with a little under 400 metres of climbing. It is quite a while since we were up there. I was back just in time to help my neighbour with the visit from the insurance expert as she was not confident enough with her French. His report will indicate that a more extensive survey is necessary as the water may be coming from ground sources and may be the responsibility of the commune. I then went into town with my other neighbour who has been broken into to help her give an official statement at the gendarmerie. She does speak some French but struggles understanding rapid French in that sort of context. It was a long session and very thorough. All the concerns about what is going on in the neighbourhood were also noted as well as the theft. She is a good neighbour and it was nice to be able to help.
