Little dancers

Mr C set to cleaning the van this morning so I thought I’d tackle the fridge.

That was so demanding I needed a wee relax with my book - “Findings” by Kathleen Jamie. I’m learning so much - I’m interested but not at all knowledgable about birds. Though I suppose being brought up on a farm must have had some subliminal effects. I was thrilled to hear a corncrake on Barra and the haunting call of the loon when friends took us out in their canoe on Boundary Waters wilderness area in Minnesota. I’ll certainly look ar familiar places with fresh eyes. But I had to try to ignore all her forced similes in the book. Once I notice things like that they all just keep coming, sometimes several in one paragraph. “the surveyors emerging from the tomb like astronauts from a mission”. Or “seals like black bananas”. “Whales like leatherette sofas” “with orifices like caves”.

#3 daughter is due home today, having left Paris on Eurostar. I admire her planning to get the most out of Paris for the children in 2 days. (Booked Eiffel Tower after dark, Louvre booked, River boat, Galleries Lafayette for Jellycat Patisserie and views of Paris, the Latin Quarter, churches). Phew. I might need another wee rest just thinking about that. (We think the 1700 mile drive to Germany for a week probably took more out of our energy reserves than it used to. That and the heat and Thomas’s airlift to hospital).

I continue to feel despair about Ukraine and Gaza. I can only send off money (and refuse to watch BBC).

Oh I did wander round the garden to get my blip - the sun had come out and that’s cheering.
