Pafuri
Another long day on the road as Pafuri Border Camp is literally next the the border post with Mozambique.
The camp was established in the 1920’as an employment bureau for migrant workers seeking employment in the Joburg gold mines. There are only three houses, Mockford house, Mockford Cottage, named after Harold Mockford, the original recruitment officer, and the doctor’s house. All built in colonial style with wrap-around enclosed verandas.
We stayed in the cottage which was lovely, still with colonial style furnishings. See extras The desert lilies were blooming all over the camp.
We were greeted by a massive herd of elephants as we entered the park. Lots of Nyala’s and this is most definitely baobab country.
What a great place to celebrate our 44th anniversary.
More backblips to come.
