Diary of an Edinburgher

Bardolino

Very tired after last night’s late night, but we were up and out early, via the cafe for our tasty ‘breakfast’. I’ve rediscovered cappuccinos - haven’t had one for decades, but I find them ideal here. Then off to the bus/train station for a jaunt.

We decided to go to Bardolino, mainly because it sounds such a nice place, but also because it’s on Lake Garda. Train ticket please. No train. Bus. But this time, it was a long bendy bus (ideal for all those roundabouts). And the driver fair belted along, with hardly any stops.

That coast is holiday central! Campervans, holiday camps, big theme park type things. But Bardolino was just a wee seaside town, with ferry boats to-ing and fro-ing across the lake. The waterfront had wonderful displays of flowers. The town was full of shops (mainly clothes) and an absolute plethora of cafes. We scored a table right down at the waterfront, in the shade, and had fish and chips and a beer and watched the lucky people pottering about, coming and going in their speedboats.

It was rather too hot to walk around much, and a huge ice cream had to be gobbled quickly in the heat.

A pleasant journey back, and we made it in time for our ‘welcome’ fizz!
