Heading east, day 7
Another instance of early night meaning waking middle of the night early. I tried a hot shower but that has no effect. The fact I couldn't open my window didn't help. I ended up researching my 2 x gt grandfather, a Ross, who was born in Dulnain and died near Cawdor. I'll probably swing by on the way home.
I had a leisurely start to the morning, chatting and sewing and then set off. It was a fine day and a day with no single track roads
Stopped in Aultbea to read the info about its role in WW2 and visit the Arctic Convoy exhibition, that was very moving. Annoying the TPW indicator went off but was ok after it was reset.
Next stop was Corrieshalloch. Demonstrates how long since I've been there as then the access was on the other side, from the main Ullapool road. It was a lovely walk down to the bridge.
Parked in Ullapool and had a walk round. The cruise ship is seen on the horizon from Red Point was in Harbour. Ullapool has certainly changed from my previous visits. Last time I was there was about a quarter of a century ago.
For once I bought a sandwich and ate it with my coffee on a bench outside the Village Hall. It was very quiet and mild.
Headed back down the road and for once stopped in a layby for a power nap to recover from the post prandial dip.
Stopped in Strathpeffer and booked a Lyceum ticket and answered a couple of emails. Then finally Dingwall. A traditional B&B opposite the station. Somehow I've managed to book somewhere without an en suite, on a busy road, but the window opens.
Had an Indian for dinner. I had been going to try the new Turkish restaurant but it only takes cash and the B of S ATM isn't issuing money!
Watching the Piper Alpha story in TV. We were on holiday in Leven when it happened, and we were burgled. Though D was off the rugs by then it had an effect and the woman who was my admin officer in later years was part of the Social Work Piper Alpha team. Sad days.
