Goldsworthy - Hare blood and Snow on paper
It’s been a brilliant day in Edinburgh. I got the TransPennine and met Jenny for a quick coffee (£4.20!) before our timed tickets for the Andy Goldsworthy exhibition which was fantastic. Such a fertile imagination. Jenny had been before and thought an hour was enough but I could have stayed much longer. I succumbed to buying the book to give me a chance to take it in at my leisure. I wound like to go again but doubt I’ll can fit it in.
We walked up to David Bann for our veggie lunch. It was delicious as always. As we couldn’t decide between 2 dishes we ordered them both and shared. We had
Toasted fregola sarda, spiced puy lentil, cauliflower vanilla purée, walnut, fresh coriar pomegranate. V (NGCI) and
Mexican Bean Chilli
Filo basket, quinoa, butter bean, kidney bean, beetroot, house spices, kiwi salsa, sv potato, smokey spicy dark chocolate, corn pancake. V (NGCI). We both preferred the latter.
We took the opportunity to have a good catch up as at Beyond Borders we were rushing g to events. We’ve been friends for over 70 years. The only people alive who have known me that long are 3 cousins.
After lunch we went up to the Dovecote to see Victoria Crowe. It was disappointing that we were thrown out at 3, but maybe just as well as some were for sale and we were tempted!
We had time to walk down to the Portrait Gallery to get a cup of tea and a sit down before we had a quick look at the James VI exhibition. There was a lot of interesting exhibits as well as the portraits. I was glad I’d listened to the six Mary Queen of Scots podcasts as there was a lot of relevant history explained in the exhibition that would have taken ages to read.
We walked almost 5 miles on hard pavements so I hope my knee had no ill-effects. (TransPennine used Platform 7 which is 200m from the main concourse so that helped the steps.)
It’s really hard to choose a blip. The 50 strips of cloth (Red Flags) were coloured with earth from each of the US states. I appreciated it all but particularly all the hedgerow installations, the sheep footprints, the skylight and the painting done with hare’s blood and snow. Which to choose? It’s tough.
