Our first day in Prince
Edward Island was fun but
contained a mishap!

After breakfast we were off to the harbour front to see Charlottetown's old and dearest buildings. We parked in a lot near where the cruise ships come in. There was one docked today with lots of passengers already on foot to explore the city.
I brought a transfer chair with us as my daughter was intent to push me in it to save my cranky feet. We set off on the Heritage Walk prescribed in the tourist map. It was a distance of less than 4 km through the oldest neighbourhoods near the water front.
We stopped to view the Irish Settlers Memorial featuring a lovely Celtic cross. It acknowledges the arrival of some ten thousand Irish immigrants over time. The Beaconsfield Historic House, a mustard colour, is an example of a prime home of the Victorian era. We had a brief look at the Convention Centre as we passed.
We popped into the St. Paul's Anglican Church to admire the fantastic domed ceiling in wood and the beautiful stained glass windows. My daughter played the piano which highlighted the lovely acoustics.
We stopped for a quick photo of the St. Dunstan's Basilica, a Roman Catholic cathedral, was rebuilt to finish in 1919. It is a National Historic Site. Its 200 foot spires can be view all around the city.
At this point, my transfer chair broke as we were moving along the sidewalk. The right front wheel completely sheered off. We walked back to the car and stowed it in the trunk, then went for lunch. My daughter was so upset she could not eat, but I had a lobster roll, the most expensive sandwich I've ever eaten. (It was very good)
Back to the motel, I started to sort this broken wheelchair. The company I rented it from in Kamloops wasn't much help. I sent photos, then they decided it could not be repaired so told me to dispose of it, not return it home with me. (That's another whole story in itself!) Although this company is supposed to be nationwide, the individuals do not work together and can't offer me anything.
So, I'm without a chair to assist me. I'm determined not to let that affect my holiday. I will carry on as best I can. I want to enjoy this trip with my daughter.
