LIFE!!!

One of my blip friends recently referred to a day which in her opinion, merited a 10 out of 10. Today was one of those days for me.
Fiona and I drove to Langholm to meet Steph and her husband Col, who live in the town. They took us to the Buccleuch Centre, where the monthly Makers' Market was in full swing. I bought some flour which had been milled locally. They brought some cakes and pies, but sadly the promised vegan bakery stall wasn't there this month :-(

Col drove us a few miles down the road to Bentpath, where we spent a happy hour in the Westerkirk Parish Library, set up for antimony miners in 1793 and still lending books to the public. Amazingly, we were encouraged to take books off the shelf and handle them without gloves. Fi had always wanted to climb a library ladder!

We had tea outside, overlooking the field where the local agricultural show was being held, and the hill where the yearly fell race was due to take place at 3pm.

We finally tore ourselves away from this amazing place, and walked back to Langholm, which took most of the afternoon as we chose to walk over the hills and of course had to stop for Steph and Fi to eat their pies, Eccles cakes and flapjacks...See extra for our selfie on top of Potholm Hill.

When we finally reached Steph's house 8 miles later, her lovely son Lewis had made vegan scones :-) and when I eventually arrived back at home, D had made the tea. Perfect.
