Still Working...

The winds have died down, but fortunately for us, unlike so many other rural Canterbury properties, our power did not go out during the recent gales.

Unlike urban New Zealand -whose power lines run underground- most rural areas are still dependent on overhead wires to supply their homes and farms, schools and businesses. All it takes is a relatively small branch to hit the power lines too. It makes roadside pruning near power lines even more important.

Luckily for us our valley runs North-East to South-West (with a bit of a kink in the middle) so we were spared most of the full power of the storm.

Tonight's sky was another stunner, with heavily saturated shades of pink, orange and blue. All the better for framing this silhouette of of one of our nearby power poles.
