Red Alert Begonia

This begonia plant was sitting with other odds and sods on a bargain shelf in a DIY store until I bought it for £1 about a month ago. It has turned into a stunner in a bigger pot with fresh compost. I've given it the works here with polar coordinates treatment which has separated out the blooms, but retained their brilliant redness. I also added a light accentuated edge filter to highlight the beauty of the large sculptural leaves.

This type of experimental photography boils down to a matter of aesthetics. It is not about showing the flower exactly as the naked eye would see it , but using the tools available to make the viewer look again and perhaps see the plant in a new way. Choice of background and lighting often make or break it.
