Oxford Canal narrow boats

Fiona's friend Jackie lives on a narrow boat moored along the Oxford canal. This evening we took Gerty for a walk and decided to drop in to have a look at Jackie's boat. Oooh! Super-cute! I thought my campervan was pretty well equipped given its size but these boats are amazing . . . . . 2 bedrooms, galley with dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, dining area, living area, tv, bathroom with shower, wood fire and radiators . . . . . kayaks, cycles and no doubt a few other bits and pieces I didn't see. All very compact but very well set out and very cosy.

And who wouldn't like to live a life where scenes like this were your back garden? Where you could go away for the weekend and have a different back garden? No traffic jams (though maybe a bit of waiting at the locks from time to time).

I did notice though that there was a little rolling going on as the boat adjusted to our movements . . . . . that might make for interesting living! And I'm not sure how cold it might be in the winter, though with all the heating options and the compact space I'm sure it wouldn't take too long to warm up.

Another quaint slice of English country living (including a local swan who came over to visit us!)
