The Post-Driver

We have some really bad weather predicted for the next day or so. It is heading our way overnight. That is very likely why contractors were out working in the Meadowbank Vineyard soon after 6.30am. I was out and about in that area with the dogs at 6.am. (I was planning on getting home to watch the America’s Cup races…we won’t go there…..)
All the grape vines have been planted and the wooden posts are laid out on the ground over most of the new vineyard area.
A good proportion of the posts have already been hammered into their upright positions with the post-driver. One person drives the tractor with the post-driver behind it. The other worker picks up a post and positions it under the post-driver’s weight. Thwack thwack thwack the weight descends and drives the post well into the ground. Then they move forward to the next post. No doubt the pressure is on to get as many posts as possible into the ground before the heavy rains make the land too wet and difficult to work on.
In this image the worker is busy lifting a post into position under the post-driver’s weight. One wouldn't want to get one’s hands in the way…….
