Potatoes

13.3C starting wet turning dull then later bright. Light breeze.

Apothecary7's day off. A bit different today as this was the day I had booked my little car in for its service and first MOT. I hate the day of an MOT test. Having been spared them for the last two years I'm not sure the wait for the news of the pass was even worse. Still, it was good news in the end.

We did have an early start to get the car in for its appointment. Almost there and in good time we were held up by a breakdown on the Kingsway in Dundee. When we made our way back in the opposite direction in Apothecary7's car 15 minutes later the traffic was backed up for a very long way !

We went to M&S cafe and had a second breakfast. It was only just after 9am after all. Then we went to Broughty Ferry and had a walk round. The rain was off by then but it was still dull. Maeve the Deerhound was there too. She was chauffeured around in Apothecary7's car for a change today.

We then set off for home and as we drove along the country road shortcut we take down to our house in Carnoustie we came up behind a tractor towing a trailer of big wooden boxes. Potato harvest I thought! Blip has a lot to answer for sometimes :-)

We went for a walk and sure enough the nearby potato field was being harvested. There was one of the usual machines which is pulled by a tractor, and then there was this new large shiny machine you see in my blip. No tractor required. Except, of course, for the tractors towing the trailers with the boxes which come along side and the potatoes pour our into the boxes. The precariously perched farm worker was guiding the stream into the boxes for an even load. We watched them for a while as they made their way up and down the field. Tons of potatoes !

Apothecary7 has gone off to some sort of after hours seminar type thing to do with work. On her day off !
