Turning...

TodayI ferried Pete and Chris to Woodwalton Fen, so that they could sample the ditch invertebrates prior to a experimental restoration project that will be carried out over the winter. On my way back Rosie and I dropped into Holme Fen for a long and leisurely walk.

It was a perfect early autumn morning, mild and sunny, but with that certain damp earthy coolness present in the shadier corners. I photographed dragonflies, spiders, grasshoppers and dock-bugs, all basking in sheltered corners. But for a change I've decided to post a more general view of one of the winding tracks . Although many of the birch trees remain green, there are a few leaves turning gold and the bracken is just starting to adopt a russet hue - a promise of the splendour that will be revealed in the next month or so.
