the personal touch

Since dad's death we have spoken about scattering some of his ashes in places special to him.
Today, two small scattering containers were filled with ashes that at some point will find a resting place in Penang and the Scottish Borders, two places special to him.

While we were waiting to collect them from the funeral directors I spotted casket posters. One was of the more traditional design and this one of a range of designs (flags and flowers, musical instruments, memory murals and sporting colours) available and apparently becoming increasingly popular.

It reminded me of a time many years ago when the teenage nephew of a very dear friend was killed in a tragic road accident.
His family requested a white painted casket and T laid at rest in the family home for a couple of days. During that time his many friends wrote messages and song lyrics, painted pictures and sketches on his casket.
His brothers wanted to keep his treasured pair of Doc Martin boots so I was asked to draw the boots at the foot end of T's casket.
It was a surreal experience but a great privilege and one his friends I'm sure still think of today in his memory.
