Stony Point to Sunset Point

It's been a great day today out on the Peninsula, all rounded off with a wonderful evening ride on the Little River Rail Trail with my neighbour.

She and I parked the truck up at Stony Point on the shores of Lake Ellesmere and after a brief detour South towards Prices Stream, we set off towards Sunset Point. Naturally I was on the look out for birdlife, and we weren't disappointed. Once again, I spotted White Herons/Kotuku, this time a pair out in the shallows off Stony Point. Further along the trail, in the Kaituna Lagoon, we were also treated to a long legged display of Royal Spoonbills, White Faced Heron and also two Little Egrets, which are quite rare visitors to both Lakes Ellesmere and Forsyth.

The sunset was quite magical too; as you can see here the clear skies afforded us a clear view of the Main Divide in the far distance across Lake Ellesmere/Te Waihora.
