Return to the North

Dux or should that be Ducks?

Tonight was our Senior Prize Giving. Being a small school and this year with only 10 senior students it seemed silly to have it our normal venue, which is huge. Instead we headed out to the Red Barn (for obvious reasons!!) They laid on a fabulous meal for our students and their families and we gave out the prizes in between courses.

It is always a proud evening for me and the rest of the staff, to see these young men and women getting ready for the next chapter in their lives. Tonight was especially so because of the young man on the left of the shot (ZacVsWild) Zac has been with us since he was 5 and he is testament to what a small Area School can do for a student. He is bright, witty and intelligent as well as confident and comfortable in who he is and where he is going.
Earlier in the year he started calling himself 'Self Appointed head Boy' and so today we made him step up into the role for real. He made a speech at the leavers assembly this morning that was so good and so moving that we asked him to make it again tonight at the prize giving.
I am inordinately proud of him and his achievements (as I am with all my students) but he has a special little place in my heart :-)

Organising prize giving is normally a TeeJay job (because she's an organiser!!!!!!!) but for obvious reasons she couldn't quite do it this year, so I had to organise it. Now anyone on here who knows me knows I'm not an organiser!!! So it was ONE MAJOR CHALLENGE for me!!! All did not run smoothly - more people turned up to eat than planned and so we had to get more tables and pray there would be enough food. But other than that it went really well. ( Well I would say that wouldn't I!)
