Romanesco Broccoli

We went to the Farmers' Market this morning to stock up for tonight's dinner. The market has shrunk to the few hardy souls who are willing to brave the cold and the gray. And today it was both. Brrr. But we had a great time buying local fruit and veggies and walking around all the stalls. We picked up salad for dinner and stopped at a booth where the gal was selling home baked pies. After sampling a pecan bourbon chocolate pie and moaning with delight, we bought her last six slices to cut up and serve for dinner tonight: two pecan, three apple, and one pumpkin. Yum! We also bought this broccoli, one of my favorite veggies to photograph because of its fractal shapes. I took this close up and then fiddled to bring out the textures and shapes. Tonight we eat it. :) Here is the large version. Almost forgot: here is more about Romanesco Broccoli.

It's going to be a family gathering tonight with my brother Dave and sister-in-law Nora coming up from Anacortes and my brother Steve and his house mate Carol coming from a couple of blocks away. With me, Arvin and Helena there will be seven of us. Everybody should arrive soon as we plan to play games before we eat. I'm looking forward to the evening.
