The Edge of the Wold

Bay of gold

The tide was still rising as the sun set beyond Morecambe Bay, a heron that had been feeding in a pool flew from right to left. A grebe was feeding at the far end of the exposed part of the rocky skear. After a beautiful late Autumn day, the cloud was massing in the west as the next front headed our way. Wifie was restless, looking forward to a hot chocolate at Wolf House. Gus was dutifully sticking to her side as I clambered about on the rocks trying to find the best vantage point from Jack Scout.

I love these six weeks either side of the Winter solstice, as the sun sets directly into Morecambe Bay rather than behind land. Today though the cloud bank swallowed the sun, and maybe helped to turn the sky and the Bay gold.

What a brilliant day to coincide with a Sunday, and Remembrance Sunday at that. Tomorrow the rain returns. The fine day brought out the crowds, and Wolf House had one of its best days of the year.

This will look better under the lens.
