Light Bulb

There are forty apartments in our building housing a total of about a hundred people. We live in the first apartment on the ground floor where we get very little natural light due to the identical high buildings that surround us.

This image is looking up from our 'patio', a small square area just off the kitchen which as well as sporting a lovely thick layer of Cairo dirt, is also home to whatever the tenants decide to throw out their windows such as fag butts, old tissues and plastic bags. Factor in the rather pungent smell attributable to the pipes that line the walls on all four sides and it won't come as surprise to learn we don't, and never will, use our outdoor area.

It is an extremely densely populated place. We live in the twentieth building on one of the shortest streets in the area. That's 2,000 people (at least) that live within a two-minute walk of our front door.

It's not that pleasant really.

(Please excuse my negativity. I'm in a bad mood due to sleep deprivation from all the noise that comes with living here on top of not being able to find a job.)
