Sky locked

Being set on the idea
Of getting to Atlantis,
You have discovered of course
Only the Ship of Fools is
Making the voyage this year,

WH Auden

The sea was like a mirror this morning as I headed in to get papers and croissants. A glimpse of this little sky locked boat and I had to investigate. Parking rather dodgily, I nipped through a small gap in the hedge and found a tiny quay. The little boat looked as though it was floating in the clouds.

A beautiful day - much warmer than yesterday and bright sunshine. We've worked hard in the garden - Himself cut down the silver alder, it made not a murmur. I dug over the old onion bed, cleared leaves and duckweed out of the small pond, and cut back dead bracken, brambles and ferns from around it. The cats watched on in the sunshine and a robin trilled an accompaniment.

We went down to Farranamangh again to watch the sunset. The lake was full of whoopers, pochards, egrets, cormorants and gulls and the sea was still. A flotilla of clouds on the horizon obscured the sun but what place to sit and say farewell to the day.
